MOCKS

Exam practice can pay dividends when it comes to the real thing. We run mock exams for children who are preparing for entry into selective schools at 7+, 8+, 9+, 10+ and 11+.

11+ Mock Exam

The series of four 11+ mocks begins in May of Year 5, with three more exams in the autumn term of Year 6. Here is more information about each one…

May of Year 5: Maths and English Mock Exam

We cannot stress enough how important it is for your child to sit this exam if at all possible. For many children, this is the first full exam that they will have taken. The results and feedback give valuable information about how your child is positioned academically, relative to the other children who take it, and thus assists you in refining your shortlist well before the school registration deadlines which come at various stages in the autumn term. There is also plenty of time to work on any weaknesses revealed before the real exams.

Some parents worry that their children are not sufficiently prepared to take a mock exam at this stage, but the exam is pitched at an appropriate level and we take great care to spend time putting them at ease and explaining what is going to happen before the children start the papers.

October of Year 6: Reasoning and Cognitive Ability Mock Exam

Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning papers are set by many of the schools in south-west London, and those that don’t will often incorporate Reasoning-type questions into their Maths and English papers. We therefore encourage all children to take the Reasoning mock exam to give them exposure to the common types of Reasoning questions and to allow them to practice working through a multiple-choice test both quickly and accurately. We do not return the question papers for Reasoning, but detailed feedback showing scores (with an example question for each question type) is sent, together with the number of questions attempted in each section.

Early November of Year 6: Maths and English Mock Exam

Late November or early December of Year 6: Maths and English Mock Exam

Our Year 6 Autumn exam series concludes with two opportunities to sit Maths and English mock exams, usually three weeks apart. The papers are different on each date and most children we teach sit both exams. The children are well-prepared by this stage and taking exams on both dates allows them to fine-tune their exam technique and to practice further any areas of weakness highlighted.

Full details of all our mock exams including dates, times, prices and venue information can be found at the bottom of this page.

Discounts are available when more than one exam is booked at the same time.

10+ Mock Exam

Each year we run a series of three exams for children sitting a 10+ entrance exam in Year 5, and we would recommend that they sit two of the following…

May of Year 4: Maths and English Mock Exam

This exam is targeted at those children who are sitting or are considering sitting a 10+ exam in the following autumn/winter. For those whose parents are undecided, it can give some useful information about their academic level and whether they are likely to be ready to sit an entrance exam in Year 5. Where children are already entered to sit an exam, taking this early mock exam gives plenty of time to develop any areas of weakness before the real thing. The 10+ exam for Hampton School takes place soon after the autumn half-term break, so early practice is particularly useful for anyone sitting this exam.

For many children, this is the first full exam that they will have taken. Some parents worry that their children are not sufficiently prepared to take a mock exam at this stage, but the exam is pitched at an appropriate level and we take great care to spend time before the children start the papers putting them at ease and explaining what is going to happen.

October of Year 5: Maths, English and Verbal Reasoning Exam

and

Late November or early December of Year 5: Maths, English and Verbal Reasoning Exam

These are the final two opportunities to take a 10+ mock exam, and for these two dates we add a Verbal Reasoning paper. We would recommend that children sitting a 10+ entrance exam take at least one of these papers, and perhaps both if they did not take the May exam.

Full details of all our mock exams including dates, times, prices and venue information can be found at the bottom of this page.

Discounts are available when two 10+ exams are booked at the same time.

7+ and 8+ Mock Exam

We run two mock exams for 7+ and 8+ in the autumn term. The exams take place together in the same venue, but different papers are set for each age group. The exam papers are different on the second date and many children come to both dates. On each date the 7+ and 8+ mock exams consist of papers in Maths, English and Reasoning. The marked papers are returned to parents with detailed comments and feedback.

We have been running mock exams for such young children for many years, and we take great care to put them at ease and to run the session in an age-appropriate way.

Full details of all our mock exams including dates, times, prices and venue information can be found at the bottom of this page.

Discounts are available when two exams are booked at the same time.

We also run mock interview sessions to prepare students for their 11+. These are run by a specialist experienced in interviewing children of this age. All mock interviews are held at our Dukes Meadows (Chiswick) centre during the Autumn term.

“My son really enjoyed the 11+ mock exams and they gave him a lot of confidence as he now knows what to expect for the entry exams. The detailed results I received helped us tweak his focus areas to further improve his results, and being able to see progress from mock to mock is motivating him to continue to improve.”
