MOCK exams for 7+, 8+, 9+, 10+ and 11+

 

Laidlaw Education is the most experienced mock exam provider in South West London having successfully run them since 1994.

We offer carefully designed mock exams for children preparing for 7+, 8+, 9+, 10+ and 11+ entrance exams, as well as for families seeking an independent assessment of their child’s academic level.

Why Parents Choose Our Mock Exams

Confidence: Our in-person mock exams allow children to experience real exam conditions in a calm, supportive environment. This helps children feel prepared and reduces anxiety.

Clarity: Parents are warmly invited to telephone us for advice and feedback following any mock exam. Drawing on decades of experience advising local families, we’re happy to discuss results, school choices and next steps.

Preparation: Beyond test results, our mock exams develop exam technique, time management and resilience - skills that benefit children well beyond the entrance exam process. If they need extra support, we have experienced teachers who can work with them individually or in small groups.

Practical Information

Mock exams take place in East Sheen at Sheen Lane Day Centre, 74 Sheen Lane, London SW14 8LP.

They are held on Saturday afternoons.

Results are shared on the following Thursday afternoon.

Papers are returned fully marked, with helpful comments and cohort averages where appropriate.

Different papers are set on each date, allowing pupils to sit multiple mock exams to track progress, improve exam technique and identify areas for development.

Discounts are available when booking multiple exams, and for children who are currently having term-time lessons with us.

  • Children usually sit their 11+ exams in the Autumn term of Year 6. Our comprehensive series of in-person mock exams mirrors this timeline.

    • May and June (Year 5)

    • September, October and November (Year 6)

      About our 11+ mock exams:

    • Includes English, Maths and Reasoning

    • English includes SPaG (spelling, punctuation and grammar)

    • Reasoning reflects current entrance exam formats, including ISEB

    • Papers are set at an appropriate level for the time of year

    • Results can offer independent benchmarking against peers

    • We give feedback to support preparation and school selection

    • Our dates and formats reflect the earlier timing and variety of Autumn term entrance exams, including schools such as Tiffin. It is important children are prepared for all variations.

  • We also run mock interview sessions to prepare students for their 11+. These are run by a specialist experienced in interviewing children of this age.

    All mock interviews are held at our education centre at The National Archives in Kew during the Autumn term.

  • Children usually sit their 10+ exams in the Autumn term of Year 5. Our comprehensive series of in-person mock exams mirrors this timeline.

    • May and June (Year 4)

    • September, October and November (Year 5)

    • Includes English, Maths and Reasoning

    • Suitable for families preparing for 10+ entry or considering it

    • Provides an independent assessment of academic level

    • Papers are set at an appropriate level for the time of year

    • These exams are often used both for preparation and assessment purposes.

  • Our 9+ mock exams provide an opportunity for assessment or to prepare for an entrance exam.

    • Includes English (comprehension and essay), Maths and Reasoning

    • Ideal preparation for 9+ entrance exams or exploratory assessment to give an independent review of child’s academic level relative to their peers

    • Helps families decide whether 9+ entry is appropriate

    • Run in a supportive, age-appropriate environment

  • We have many years of experience running mock exams for younger children and take great care to ensure sessions are reassuring and age-appropriate.

    • 7+: September, October and November (Year 2)

    • 8+: September, October and November (Year 3)

    About our 7+ and 8+ mock exams:

    • Includes English, Maths and Reasoning

    • Exams take place together at the same venue, with different papers for each age group

    • Designed for children sitting entrance exams for schools with higher academic expectations

    • The formal setting helps children practise exam technique and overcome nerves, while our experienced team makes sure they feel supported throughout.
